RSPO Supply Chains
Palm oil or palm oil derivatives certified by the RSPO can be sourced through four different supply chain models: Identity Preserved, Segregated, Mass Balance and RSPO Credits / Book and Claim.
Each of these models comes with its own advantages, requirements and pre-approved consumer claim. The four models play different but equally important roles towards achieving the RSPO vision of transforming the market to make sustainable palm oil the norm. Organisations that would like to take their responsibility in sustainable sourcing, are advised to start today with sourcing through one of these models.
Identity Preserved
RSPO Certified Sustainable Palm Oil from a single identifiable certified source that is kept separately from ordinary palm oil throughout the supply chain.
Segregated
RSPO Certified Sustainable Palm Oil from different certified sources that is kept separate from ordinary palm oil throughout the supply chain.
Mass Balance
RSPO Certified Sustainable Palm Oil from certified sources that is mixed with ordinary palm oil throughout the supply chain.
RSPO Credits / Book & Claim
Manufacturers and retailers can buy RSPO Credits and RSPO Independent Smallholder Credits from RSPO Certified growers, crushers and independent smallholders. By purchasing RSPO Credits, buyers encourage the production of Certified Sustainable Palm Oil. To continue providing economic incentives to growers, we need the flexibility of the Mass Balance supply chain to provide growers increased access to international markets.
