The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) is a global, non-profit organisation with voluntary members working to transform the palm oil industry to make it sustainable. We are focused on bringing together stakeholders from across the palm oil supply chain to develop and implement global standards for sustainable palm oil.

The Manager, Smallholder Programme (Livelihood)  will be responsible for developing, managing, and executing programs and activities related to the improvement of the livelihood business model of smallholders within the RSPO system beyond certification via strong partnerships with the entire palm oil supply chain and related stakeholders. The position will lead the improvement and development of STA – Smallholder Trainers Academy by working closely with all smallholder regional representatives for the successful implementation of RSPO smallholder strategy.

The location of this role is Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia or Jakarta, Indonesia.

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include but will not be limited to the following:

  1. Develop appropriate programs focused on supports towards business model improving the livelihood of smallholder aimed at, but not limited to, improving productivity, farmer group strengthening and increasing access to finance
  2. Forge an effective outreach approach and partnership to increase support of the RSPO livelihood improvement program
  3. Identify country-based strategic livelihood intervention, collective impact and winning models potentially to be roll-out to new countries and regions
  4. Improve tools, modules and approach of RSPO Smallholder Trainer Academy (STA) and ensure best practices training delivery to address the needs of smallholders and partners
  5. Manage and leverage the STA partners network to enhance the capacity-building efforts for smallholders
  6. Manage, maintain and communicate data on the reach and impact of the livelihood improvement program including STA to internal and external stakeholders
  7. Provide high-quality services to smallholders and partners on matters related to smallholder’s livelihood improvement
  8. Manage and participate in relevant working groups directly or indirectly under the Smallholders Unit, and manage external consultants/service providers, as required..
  9. Apart from the duties stated above, to perform any duty or duties reasonably assigned.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT

Education

  • Degree in the field of Community Development, Corporate Finance, Business Administration, Sociology or Environmental Management

Experience

  • A track record in developing and implementing small medium livelihood improvement programs for smallholders.
  • Strong background in designing and implementing training programs for smallholder audiences
  • More than 7 years’ experience in managerial level in a relevant organization or company.
  • Working experience with oil palm multi-stakeholder partnerships and certification is an advantage

Technical and Professional Knowledge

  • Livelihood strategies and project management
  • Smallholder developmental agenda, including but not limited on productivity enhancement, farmer group strengthening, and access to finance
  • Good understanding on delivering global training program for smallholder
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and/or projects
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Essential Skills

  • Project management skills, risk assessment
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and interact with different stakeholders, backgrounds and/or nationalities
  • Proficiency in English with good communication skills
  • High integrity and a good team player
