The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) is a global, non-profit organisation with voluntary members working to transform the palm oil industry to make it sustainable. We are focused on bringing together stakeholders from across the palm oil supply chain to develop and implement global standards for sustainable palm oil.

Reporting to the Deputy Director, Communications, the Manager Communications (Americas) is responsible for supporting RSPO communications and member related engagement in the Americas (North America and Latin America) regions, aligned with the objectives of RSPO. Focus will be on integrated communications across all channels, with a focus on media relations, reputation management and strengthening the commitment of RSPO members and stakeholders in the Americas via an effective communications strategy that increases the RSPO’s visibility and reputation as a sustainability organisation and standard setter.

The role will require travel (as necessary) to key markets, primarily, but also to other regions as required.

The location of this role is Bogota, Colombia.

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include but will not be limited to the following:

  • Implement communications activities, in consultation with the Deputy Directors, Communications. Relatedly, provide input to the Communications Division to develop communication materials that are relevant for the various stakeholders in the region.
  • Coordinate and support dissemination of RSPO Americas communications and technical and localised materials across traditional and digital media channels.
  • Coordinate and support planning and implementation of media/communication campaigns to promote awareness of sustainable palm oil, RSPO certification standards, the RSPO Trademark and the uptake of RSPO certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO) in the Americas among other topics.
  • Gather, organise, and draft information to enable RSPO to respond to media requests and crisis/issue management in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Understand the media environment/landscape in this region and to cultivate good rapport and engagement with priority media titles.
  • Assist with research and production of materials for presentations and/or interviews for colleagues in the Americas (e.g. Head of North America, Deputy Director of Latin America, Market Transformation Managers, etc.) and other designate(s). This includes commissioning content for the region and managing a regional inventory of RSPO communication assets.
  • Support in responding to general enquiries from members, potential members and media in the Americas, including 1) to ensure members are supported with timely and accurate information and service, 2) Support regional activities to engage and build rapport with members
  • Support the North America and Latin America teams with all communication elements for the organisation of  regional roadshows and workshops to strengthen member engagement, in consultation with the Deputy Director, Communications and the Events Manager
  • Support any internal communication requirements to ensure organisational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees and stakeholders.
  • Apart from the duties stated above, to perform any duty or duties reasonably assigned.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT

Education

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in mass communications, sustainability, international development, or relevant fields.

Experience

  • Minimum five years working experience, with sound experience in PR, Communications

Technical and Professional Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of media landscapes in key North American and Latin American markets, including relationships with key media titles.
  • Strong understanding of global environmental and social issues
  • Strong organisational and communication skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritise multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
  • Professional fluency (both written and oral) in both English and Spanish

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Familiar with all forms of communication formats (print,  audio,  video, social)
  • Able to work in a multistakeholder and international environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency in Google Suite applications (Gmail, Drive, Docs, etc.)
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and interact with different stakeholders
  • Professional fluency in English and Spanish is a must
  • Prior experience with environmental and social NGOs/non-profits is highly desirable
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Ability to work under pressure
