Following a comprehensive review of the RSPO Complaints and Appeals Procedures 2017 (CAP 2017), we are pleased to announce that the Recommendations Report for the proposed RSPO Grievance Mechanism is now ready for public comments.
In August 2022, The Remedy Project Limited (TRP) was engaged by RSPO to review the effectiveness of CAP 2017 and to explore the implementation of a broader RSPO Grievance Mechanism to handle alleged and actual breaches of RSPO Key Documents.
TRP has presented its analysis in the Key Findings Report, which recognised RSPO’s role as a leader among multi-stakeholder initiatives (MSIs) and highlighted the opportunities it offers for resolving complaints. Additionally, the report also identifies areas for improvement to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the mechanism. Based on this review and analysis, TRP has formulated a set of recommendations aimed at creating a more integrated and effective grievance mechanism.
The Recommendations Report is divided into two parts:
- Part A: Recommendations based on the findings in the Key Findings Report; and
- Part B: The proposed model for a restructured RSPO Grievance Mechanism, focusing on improvements in impartiality, independence, legitimacy, and specialisation in roles and responsibilities.
The public comments period will be open for 60 days, starting on 28 January 2025 and closing on 28 March 2025. We encourage all stakeholders to review the recommendations and provide their feedback.
