RSPO participated in the Shanghai International Oleo Chemicals Exhibition & Conference on 10-12 April 2013, and successfully introduced sustainable palm oil and RSPO to more than 100 Chinese domestic oleo chemical companies. RSPO’s booth was visited by over 4,000 participants.
China is one of the world’s largest producers of oleo chemical products, which are mainly derived from palm oil, coconut oil and palm kernel oil. In 2009, oleo ingredient imports to the country were close to 2 million tons. Chinese oleo chemical companies are also key suppliers to consumer goods giants in the US and Europe. The exhibition presented almost 200 Chinese oleo chemical, surfactant and detergent companies, including the most active players in the industry. Although palm oil derivatives are widely used in their products, most of the companies are not aware that they are impacting the world’s environment and biodiversity. This exhibition provided an opportunity for us to introduce why sustainable palm oil is important, as well as RSPO and its vision and mission.
