Kuala Lumpur, 22 April, 2012 – The Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) has been closely following the process of mediation between IOI Corporation Berhad (IOI) and the Long Teran Kanan community in Sarawak, Malaysia, regarding the dispute over native customary land leased by IOI for palm oil production.
The RSPO is conscious that these matters take considerable time to resolve due to their complexity – as it is often the case in land disputes – but the mediation, which plays an integral role, is expected to continue.
Complaints submitted to the RSPO are handled by its Grievance Panel, who officially conveys its final decisions and recommendations on grievance concerns once they have been clearly established.
The RSPO remains committed towards this process, as its Code of Conduct requires that all members work proactively towards the production and promotion of sustainable palm oil.
