SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY STORY
“The group faces financial constraints in applying for certification and may not have sufficient funds to pay for the subsequent evaluation examination. Moreover, the group needs to recruit more members.”
…………………………….
Mr Jaruek Thippadej, the group manager of Ban Nadoem Oil Palm Collaborative Farming Community Enterprise in the Ban Nadoem district of Surat Thani province, shared that the group consists of 21 members (10 males and 11 females), who manage a total oil palm plantation area of 407 rai. With an average annual productivity of 2.9 tonnes per rai and FFB at 826.21 tonnes,. members do not supplement their income by cultivating other crops.
The members aspire to join RSPO because they understand that sustainable palm oil can elevate the price of palm oil and ensure the production of high-quality palm products. In order to achieve this, the members have been striving to manage their farms in accordance with the RSPO sustainable palm oil requirements, and they consistently track the results. They also work diligently to apply the best agricultural practices.
Jaruek said, “I want members to receive training on palm management best practices, such as working on farms while adhering to occupational health guidelines, equality principles, and environmental sustainability. Productivity from smallholders can create business value through credit sales. Once the group is accredited by RSPO, its productivity will be recognised in the palm oil market, which can add to its value.”
“However, the group faces financial constraints in getting certified and may not have sufficient funds to cover the expenses for advancing the certification process. The group must also recruit new members or expand into a larger enterprise, a step that must be approved by RSPO. As a result, the group requires financial support to achieve RSPO certification this year and future years.”
