Following the adoption of the revised RSPO Principles and Criteria (P&C) in November 2018, RSPO has been working on revising its guidance documents which includes the New Planting Procedure (NPP). The revision of the NPP is conducted to align its requirements with the P&C 2018.
The revision process of the NPP started in 2019 and the first public consultation was held on 13 December 2019 – 29 February 2020. During the first public consultation period, a series of face-to-face workshops was held in Malaysia, Indonesia, Ghana, and Colombia and a webinar was conducted to ensure inclusivity in the outreach. The overall revision process is supported by the NPP Revision Subgroup (NPPRS) and together with the RSPO Secretariat, the NPPRS has developed a draft of the Revised NPP (2021), taking into account all the comments received from the first public consultation.
The revised NPP (2021) provides appropriate guidance for specific development scenarios, improves clarity on its applicability to smallholders; reviews the assessment and management requirements, and introduces the risk-based approach, in line with the requirements of the RSPO P&C (2018).
The draft of the Revised NPP (2021) is now up for Second Public Consultation. This Public Consultation will run for 30 days from 22 April – 21 May 2021. During the public consultation period, a series of online, stakeholder-targeted engagements will be conducted. Further information on these online consultations will be provided closer to the dates.
Comments and feedback can be provided through the comments template and submitted directly to [email protected]. Both the revised draft (in PDF format) and the comments template (in Word format) are available for downloading below.
In the meantime, the requirements of the NPP (2015) shall remain effective with the conditions highlighted here.
You may contact [email protected] or [email protected] for more information about the public consultation.
