Following the announcement made in July 2018 on the applicability of the Hak Guna Usaha (HGU) in the RSPO Principles and Criteria (P&C) Certification, the RSPO Board of Governors (BoG) in their March 2020 meeting had agreed on the following:
- For Initial Certification (IC), the Unit of Certification (UoC) must have HGU and IUP (Izin Usaha Perkebunan) permits or other acceptable legal alternatives, as defined in the National Interpretation.
- For Recertification (RC) audits, the UoC can continue with their certification provided that adequate genuine evidence that the company is taking actions to move towards obtaining the HGU is available and it must comply with all the requirements at the time.
- Surveillance audits on UoC can continue as announced earlier.
These requirements are effective from the date of this announcement. The BoG will review the application of this decision and provide further guidance in the future. For more information, please contact [email protected]
