The updated 2025 Research Agenda is a strategic roadmap designed to drive evidence-based solutions and deepen global collaboration toward a more sustainable palm oil industry.
The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) has released its updated Research Agenda for 2025, a key initiative aimed at advancing the sustainable transformation of the global palm oil industry. Building on over two decades of progress, the RSPO’s Research Agenda serves as a comprehensive framework to guide researchers, institutions and stakeholders in evaluating the impact of RSPO’s strategies and interventions, ensuring continued progress toward sustainable palm oil production and use.
The updated agenda highlights five key themes: Sustainable Ecosystem Management, Mitigating Climate Change and Emissions Management, Enhancing Labour Benefits and Stakeholder Equity, Enhancing Benefits for Palm Oil Producers, and Transforming Markets. These areas align with RSPO’s Theory of Change (ToC) and Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Framework, designed to better understand and measure the impacts of RSPO’s interventions across the palm oil supply chain.
RSPO’s Research Agenda aims to address both existing gaps and emerging challenges in the sector. By promoting in-depth, evidence-based research, RSPO seeks to uncover innovative solutions and refine its strategies. This effort will ensure continued progress towards RSPO’s goal of making palm oil sustainable.
The agenda also embraces a broad scope, recognising that diverse social, economic, and environmental contexts across different regions play a significant role in the effectiveness of RSPO’s interventions. By fostering research on a global scale, RSPO strives to ensure that its initiatives are impactful, inclusive, and adaptive to changing conditions.
The updated Research Agenda is now available for researchers to guide future studies and collaborations. RSPO welcomes all interested parties to engage with this initiative.
