The North American Sustainable Palm Oil Network (NASPON) will host an inaugural meeting in Texas, USA, in December 2018, to build on rapid membership growth since the coalition formed in late 2017.

Priority goals for this full-day NASPON meeting include exploring the segregated supply chain in North America, discussing results from a 2016-2017 Annual Communications of Progress (ACOP) data review and finalising educational materials for the sustainable palm oil market.

Formed in 2017 after the 15th Annual Roundtable Conference in Bali, Indonesia (RT15), NASPON’s mission is to educate, build momentum and assist North American companies in making – and delivering on – commitments to source sustainable palm oil.

NASPON’s membership almost doubled in 2018

During 2018, the coalition has brought together like-minded North American organisations to increase use of Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO) and Certified Sustainable Palm Kernel Oil (CSPKO) in the region.

NASPON’s company memberships almost doubled in 2018 to a total of 32 members, from 17 initial network members. New members of the North American coalition include: AarhusKarlshamn (AAK), Agrocaribe, Aldi, Brill (a CSM Bakery Solutions Company), Campbell Soup Company, CLP Chemical, Colgate-Palmolive Company, Corbion, Daabon Group, Exova BM Trada, Neste, Perrigo, Restaurant Brands International, Ventura Foods, and Victory Tropical Oils (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Golden Agri-Resources).

Decision to join ‘a natural next step’

The decision to join NASPON was a natural next step for Brill, according to CSM Bakery Solutions’ (Brill’s parent company) President and CEO Marianne Kirkegaard, in a recent press release.

“CSM has supported and been a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) since its inception, so the decision to do the same in North America was an easy one.”

Brill is a leader in bakery ingredients and products serving retail bakeries and foodservice operators across North America.
