Following the Extraordinary General Assembly (EGA) RSPO held a Limited Media Roundtable on Monday, 6 May 2013 in Jakarta, as part of RSPO Indonesia’s regular engagement activities with the Indonesian media. Acting as RSPO’s spokespersons were RSPO Advisor Prof. Dr. Bungaran Saragih, RSPO Indonesia Director Desi Kusumadewi and RSPO Communications Director Anne Gabriel, who was representing RSPO Secretary General Darrel Webber.
Issues that were discussed at the media roundtable include: the latest updates on the revised RSPO P&C 2013 and key outcome of the recent Extraordinary General Assembly Meeting in Kuala Lumpur; updates on the key progresses related to RSPO and palm oil sector in Indonesia; and announcement of the upcoming RT11 to be hosted by Indonesia in Medan. 16 journalists attended the roundtable representing 16 media titles, mostly from first-tier media titles, both daily and online. Six trade publications were also among the attending journalists.
The media roundtable was an effective platform for RSPO to have an interactive dialog with members of the Indonesian press and address their questions, in an effort to improve the local media’s understanding of and support for RSPO. To ensure that the local media is updated on RSPO-related developments, RSPO conducts these media roundtables on a quarterly basis.
