NATURACEITES S. A., previously known as INVERSIONES DE DESARROLLO S. A. (INDESA) is a Guatemalan company founded with the goal of developing and processing oil palm plantations and refining edible oils, based on sustainability achieved through productivity, profitability, social development and environmental protection.

As an agribusiness company, we recognize that to be sustainable, we need to implement and promote corporate social responsibility, committing to cooperate with the development of our employees, the neighboring communities and the protection of the environment, managing with responsibility the resources that are used in compliance with existing national and international legislation, ensuring industrial safety and occupational health and continuously promoting the preparation and training of all our staff.

NATURACEITES, a firm believer of the sustainability of palm oil, had applied in the past the axis of Corporate Social Responsibility program that includes:
* Open door policy with all employees and the surrounding communities.
* Developing and improving the living conditions of the employees.
* Careful selection of responsible suppliers in the supply chain.
* Quality assurance, through the commitment of all staff to quality.
* Environmental protection through a proper management program.
* Ongoing collaboration with local communities focused on education, health and infrastructure.
* Ongoing collaboration with the State of Guatemala, in infrastructure, health programs and education.

The company has collaborated and established agreements with organizations such as Defenders of Wildlife, the Water Fund, the Guatemalan Center for Cleaner Production and the Turcios Lima Foundation, obtaining in 2007 an award for its commitment to CENTRARSE (as INDESA), an association supported by World Business Council for Sustainable Development.

Tanques Del Atlántico is a subsidiary of NaturAceites that is port facility used for dispatching CPO and PKO to international clients.

    Organisation's Commitments Toward Sustainability

  • How will your organisation promote the RSPO internally and to other stakeholders?
    NATURACEITES S. A. will promote the principles and criteria of RSPO, internally and with other stakeholders,first through information campaigns, then following with constant training, open-door policy with its employees and neighboring communities, meetings with other companies engaged in the cultivation of oil palm and supporting the implementation of the National Interpretation of the standard through the Guatemalan Standards Commission (COGUANOR).
  • Where relevant, what processes is the organisation establishing to engage with interested parties, for example to resolve conflict or to use sustainably produced palm oil?
    NATURACEITES S. A. has handled the resolution of conflicts with workers through the creation of the Joint Board, comprising representatives of employees and the company, and with the neighboring communities through constant communication with the Community Development Councils (COCODES).<br />For the use of sustainable palm oil NATURACEITES S. A. has established business relationships with companies interested in buying palm oil certified as sustainable, for example, UNILEVER.
  • Where relevant, how will your organisation work towards implementing the RSPO Principles and Criteria or assessing supplier performance against these criteria?
    NATURACEITES S. A. is currently doing information campaigns of the RSPO Principles and Criteria to their employees, and implementing all the axes of the Corporate Social Responsibility programs, such as open door policies, improving the living conditions of the employees, carefully selecting responsible suppliers in the supply chain, keeping quality assurance programs and environmental management, working closely with neighboring communities and the State of Guatemala in health programs, education and infrastructure.
  • Any other information that would support the application such as what your organisation hopes to gain from joining RSPO and how it would support RSPO?
    NATURACEITES S. A. will support the RSPO through the public application of the RSPO Principles and Criteria, producing sustainable palm oil, starting with the adequate planting of new palm plantation,responsible management of the current plantations and mills, finishing with the satisfaction of the palm oil customers, demonstrating that the cultivation of oil palm is truly sustainable, environment friendly, improves the living conditions of everyone involved and leads to the development of Guatemala.
