The RSPO × JaSPON Conference and Member Engagement Forum 2025 will take place on 6 to 8 October 2025 in Tokyo, Japan, bringing together key stakeholders across the Japanese palm oil industry. This second edition of the flagship event will explore the latest developments, key trends, and challenges in the sustainable palm oil market, at a time when Japan’s significant role is more critical than ever. The RSPO × JaSPON Conference and Member Engagement Forum 2025 aims to strengthen support for existing RSPO Members in Japan while expanding membership and certified trade, as well as highlight the progress of independent smallholders and promote inclusive and resilient supply chains.

Centred around the theme, “Driving Sustainable Palm Oil Leadership in Japan: From Members to Markets, From Smallholders to Consumers,” the 2025 forum will explore a wide range of topics, from empowering members by strengthening RSPO in Japan to driving market growth through expanding membership and certified trade. It will highlight how Japanese companies are leading by example, showcasing sustainability success stories, while also shaping public perceptions and raising consumer awareness through media. The Forum will also highlight the impact of smallholder farmers in advancing inclusive sustainability, building resilient supply chains as incentives for smallholders. Finally, participants will stay ahead of the curve with updates on certification, policies and global regulations and their impacts on the industry.

Keynote Voices

“The values of trust, consensus-building, discipline, and continuous improvement are deeply embedded in Japanese society and business, these values are the cornerstones of RSPO’s long-term partnership with JaSPON,” said RSPO Chief Executive Officer Joseph D’Cruz, who will open the Conference alongside JaSPON leadership. “We can all learn from the outstanding sustainability success stories of Japanese companies, who are serving as role models setting the standard for what genuine transformation looks like, leading by example.”

Japan’s Market Snapshot

Japan now represents the fourth-largest RSPO membership base globally – after the USA, Germany, and the UK. Membership has grown rapidly since 2018, particularly around the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, with CSPO share in imports climbing from under 3% in 2018 to nearly 30% by 2020.

Since its establishment in 2019, JaSPON has played a central role in driving this progress. Since then, RSPO and JaSPON have strengthened their mutual collaboration, building on two successful virtual events in 2023. With support from a new Tokyo-based consultant (from July 2025), the 2025 forum will re-establish regular engagement and momentum.

Through this event, RSPO and JaSPON reaffirm Japan’s leadership in sustainable palm oil, equipping members with the tools, resources, and partnerships needed to accelerate transformation, from smallholders to global markets. To register for the Conference, please click here.
