Yayasan Setara Jambi

ABOUT

”Prosperous and Just Communities, Well-Preserved Environment” is the vision Yayasan Setara Jambi is seeking to achieve, and it is sought through the following missions:

Setara Jambi was founded in 2007 in the Province of Jmabi, which was based on concerns about the many social conflicts due to land conflicts at that time. Then in 2011 Setra developed a strategy to empower small farmers to be able to increase their knowledge and skills in managing their land and to build a good bargaining position.

In 2013 Setara became a member of the RSPO together with 1 independent smallholder organisation receiving the second certification in Indonesia. Since then Setara Jambi has focused on educating and empowering independent oil palm smallholders and advocating policies with a collaborative working approach of parties to jointly support independent smallholders in realizing sustainable palm oil management in Jambi, Sumatra - Indonesia.

“Certification is one way to improve governance towards Sustainability, Rights, Livelihoods and the Future”

How you can support

1. This year we have two independent smallholder organisations (850 people) who have prepared to take part in RSPO and ISPO certification, have data and maps, have received relevant training materials on sustainable palm oil, have conducted internal audits and have just been approved to become RSPO Members. We need partners to finance refresher training for all members, preparation of RSPO and ISPO external audit and administration. (Location : Tebo Regency, Jambi Province). 2. We have mapped and collected data on 1000 oil palm independent smallholders, who will be given training this year, our target is 1000 smallholders will get RSPO Certification, but we do not yet have partners to support the process of forming and strengthening organisations, registering RSPO Members and RSPO audit implementation both internal and external (Location: Tebo Regency, Jambi Province). 3. We have one independent smallholder organisation (300 people) who have attended GAP oil palm training, have formed an organisation, are currently in the process of mapping and data collection. This group is very enthusiastic about joining the RSPO Certification programme, however we do not yet have partners to finance full training materials, registration of RSPO members and internal and external audits. (location : Musi Banyu Asin Regency, South Sumatra Province). 4. We have a programme to reach more independent smallholders who can carry out sustainable palm oil management both in Jambi, South Sumatra, Riau Provinces or others in Sumatra, we need support for collaborative funding or access to information and institutional capacity building for organisational strengthening. 5. Institutional strengthening of certified independent smallholder organisations; capacity building for managing credit funds, developing independent businesses (purchasing FFB and selling directly to factories, selling fertilisers, savings and loans for members, nurseries etc.), organisational management, documentation and publication, adding members, regenerative agriculture and conservation. Since obtaining the RSPO certificate from the independent smallholder group we are assisting, there are no partners who are willing to support the certified independent smallholder group, we are still doing it ourselves even though it is full of limitations, so that the group can become truly independent later. Because they will directly become an example for other oil palm smallholders who do not/have not participated in the certification programme. Your support will be a new energy for us.
