The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) is a global, non-profit organisation with voluntary members working to transform the palm oil industry to make it sustainable. The purpose of this position is to play a critical role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating potential risks that could harm the operation and reputation of the Assurance system specifically and within RSPO Secretariat as an organization. This position will analyze data, create models, and develop strategies to help the RSPO Secretariat to mitigate and manage risk. The day-to-day duties may include reviewing Assurance data (e.g. Certification & Integrity), conducting risk assessments, monitoring and analyzing trends of allegation in public domain, and communicating findings to internal and external stakeholders

This position will also provide support and assistance to the Head of Risk and Director of Assurance on regulatory compliance of the RSPO Standard and key documents and ensure recommendations are made and executed in line with expected goals across RSPO Secretariat.

The location of this role is Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia or Jakarta, Indonesia.

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include but will not be limited to the following:

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Conduct risk assessments, identify potential threats and evaluate risks relevant to the work of Assurance system and RSPO Secretariat
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies and plans to mitigate identified risks.
  • Analyze RSPO Assurance data and trends of allegation in the public domain to identify potential risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Make recommendations to reduce risk, including the use of analytical data (and/or software if required) to calculate the risk level for a decision
  • Consult with RSPO internal staff and understand their data needs
  • Create reports (or other means) and anticipate the losses of certain business decisions

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Collaborate with other Units/Divisions and RSPO members/stakeholders to assess the impact of risks relevant to RSPO work undertaken
  • Create reports, presentations, and other materials to communicate risk assessments and risk management strategies to internal RSPO Secretariat staff across division/units
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to risk management
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of risk management strategies and adjust as needed.
  • Implement and maintain risk management tools and systems, such as risk registers and incident reporting processes.
  • Conduct training sessions or workshops to educate employees on risk management and mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to risk management
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships across division within the RSPO Secretariat, and with critical members if necessary

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT

Education

  • Minimum a bachelor’s degree in any related field. A degree in risk management would be an advantage

Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of risk analysis working experience in any areas, preferable in the oil palm/agroforestry sectors or relevant field

Technical and Professional Knowledge

  • Knowledge of ISO 31000 Risk Management, or other internationally recognized risk management techniques, guidelines and Standard
  • Having good understanding of the work of the RSPO and its standards would be advantage
  • Expertise in risk modeling and forecasting with having familiarity on the regulatory compliance

Other Special Requirements

  • Ability to navigate complex data sets
  • Experience with statistical analysis methodology

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) or other means such as google office
  • English is the professional working language used, however having other language spoken by other RSPO colleagues is preferable such as Bahasa Malaysia/Indonesia, or Spanish, or French, or Hindi, or Mandarin
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Superb attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Demonstrable organizational, analytical, interpersonal skills and good attitude
