The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) is a global, non-profit organisation with voluntary members working to transform the palm oil industry to make it sustainable. We are focused on bringing together stakeholders from across the palm oil supply chain to develop and implement global standards for sustainable palm oil.

Reporting to the Deputy Director Market Transformation, Indonesia, the successful candidate will contribute to achieving annual targets on market transformation in terms of uptake of sustainable palm oil and membership growth, expanding RSPO’s stakeholder network and maintaining RSPO’s reputation in Indonesia. The Manager, Market Transformation (Indonesia) will work together with the Indonesia team with a focus on reaching new members and increasing uptake of Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO).

The location of this role is Jakarta, Indonesia.

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include but will not be limited to the following:

  • Strategy and Planning:
    • Under the guidance of the Deputy Director Market Transformation (Indonesia), support, plan, manage, and facilitate activities related to increasing uptake of sustainable palm oil.
    • Develop and implement strategies to expand RSPO’s membership base, stakeholder network, and presence in Indonesia.
    • Lead initiatives that enhance RSPO’s reputation in the market, including the planning of events, webinars, conferences, and other outreach efforts.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Management:
    • Build and manage relationships with key stakeholders, including current and prospective RSPO members, industry leaders, NGOs, and government entities.
    • Proactively identify and engage with potential strategic partners, industry influencers, and new members to drive market transformation.
    • Coordinate cross-functional collaboration between various internal RSPO teams and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on market transformation goals.
  • Market Intelligence and Trends Monitoring:
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regional economic, business, regulatory, and sustainability trends, including developments in deforestation, traceability, and sustainable supply chain management.
    • Provide insights and updates to the RSPO leadership team on emerging risks and opportunities within the market, influencing decision-making processes.
  • Risk Management:
    • Identify and assess risks to RSPO’s market transformation objectives, including reputational risks, market resistance, and stakeholder challenges.
    • Develop proactive strategies to mitigate these risks and manage issues reactively where necessary, ensuring the organisation’s reputation remains intact.
  • Member Services and Support:
    • Respond to general stakeholder and member inquiries accurately, professionally, and within a timely manner.
    • Provide advisory support to members and stakeholders on best practices in sustainable palm oil production and market engagement.
  • Representation and Public Engagement:
    • Represent RSPO in public forums, conferences, and strategic platforms relevant to RSPO’s mission and objectives.
    • Ensure RSPO’s messaging is clear, consistent, and aligned with its strategic priorities during interactions with media, corporations, industry associations, and governmental bodies.
  • Administrative Support:
    • Support in administrative tasks related to reporting, data collection, and presentations required for internal and external communication.
    • Provide regular reports and updates to the Deputy Director, Market Transformation on progress, challenges, and opportunities related to stakeholder engagement and market development activities.
  • Capacity Building and Market Outreach:
    • Work with internal teams to design and deliver capacity-building programs aimed at educating stakeholders on sustainable practices and RSPO standards.
    • Drive outreach campaigns that effectively communicate RSPO’s value proposition and the benefits of certification to prospective members.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as directed by the Deputy Director Market Transformation (Indonesia) and contribute to team-wide objectives.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT

Education

  • A bachelor’s degree in economics, business, management, international relations, or a related field.  A master’s degree is preferred.

Experience

  • At least seven (7) years of solid experience in business development, ESG, and/or Corporate Social Responsibility in Indonesia, coupled with a strong knowledge of sustainability and international development.

Technical and Professional Knowledge

  • Previous experience or knowledge of commodity supply chains would be an advantage;
  • Previous experience or knowledge regarding assisting companies in setting and implementing corporate sustainability and human rights policies would be an advantage
  • Comfortable managing budgets and able to plan and forecast effectively
  • Skilled internal and external relationship builder, with the ability to construct and maintain strong networks of policy influence within the industry and governing institutions;
  • Effective public speaking and presentation skills; and
  • Experience communicating complex issues or business strategy to stakeholders

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, negotiation, cross-team project management and consensus-building.
  • Adapt to work well with all levels across the organisation, including the ability to communicate across cultures and the ability to say ‘no’ effectively and without negative consequences.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and be able to interact with diverse stakeholders.
  • High integrity and a good team player
  • Good writing skills and ability to deliver comprehensive analytical reports
  • Excellent organisational and work planning skills, capable of multitasking on a wide range of topics
