We would like to inform you of an upcoming trial implementation of the RSPO Product Type List in prisma that is expected to be rolled out over a 6-month trial period soon.
This trial implementation is intended to address several issues regarding the traceability of RSPO Certified palm oil and oil palm products in prisma in a controlled and structured manner. This will be for RSPO Members and prisma users who have an immediate need for, or wish to make use of, the expanded trial functions. This effort is supported by a directive from the RSPO Standards Standing Committee (SSC), issued in July 2025, and will be supervised by the RSPO Supply Chain Certification (SCC) Standard Review Task Force.
Some of these issues include:
- Limited traceability functions available for sites beyond the refinery level
- Lack of clarity and differing interpretations of requirements governing those functions in prisma within the RSPO SCC Standard 2020
- Limited list of tradable certified RSPO products within the prisma Trade module
- Inflated database of certified products inventoried from SCC certificates
- Concerns on confidentiality and proprietary risks in the certified product database
The current existing functions in prisma will continue to run in parallel with trial functions, to minimise any potential disruption to operations and continuously improve through feedback from prisma users participating in the trial. The feedback will also be used inform any additional development required in prisma or the SCC Standard, as supervised by its Task Force, ahead of full implementation of the trial features. Existing trial functions will be carried over automatically to the full implementation.
Upcoming Trial Implementation of RSPO Product Type List in prisma
During this period, the following functions will be activated for trial usage in prisma, without replacing any existing concurrent or alternate functions. Usage of these functions are on an optional basis, and internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are in development for the prisma Helpdesk and the RSPO Secretariat teams to guide, advise, and support RSPO Members and prisma users who wish to use them.
The functions are:
- Announcements and Trace* functions available for post-refinery sites in the prisma Physical Trade Reporting module, to be used as optional or as required for business operations
- A fixed expanded RSPO Product Type List (see below) for products registered by RSPO Members under their SCC Standard certificates as certified for trade, covering additional product classes such as oleochemicals, ingredients and finished products. This fixed expanded list of RSPO Product Types will be usable alongside the current product list in prisma.
- Conversion rights granted to post-refinery sites in prisma by request to the prisma Helpdesk, for conversion of input Product Types into output Product Types
- Remapping of existing stock management, and product list within the prisma Trade module (including Physical Trade Announcement, Stock Management, Conversion, and Trace functions) of sites and RSPO Members who wish to use the trial implementation. Requests for such remapping or alignment with the trial Product Type List may be submitted to the prisma Helpdesk
* This includes the updated Trace function that can be extended to non-members of the RSPO by application for a prisma Registration ID by request to the RSPO Secretariat. Please see the July 2025 announcement for details.
Further details on the Trial Implementation will be published ahead of the rollout date, expected by end-November 2025.
Public Comment Period for RSPO Product Type List
To prepare and support RSPO Members and prisma users ahead of the trial implementation, the RSPO Product Type List ver1.0 document has been published today for a 30-day public comment period. As the current product list in prisma stands at over 6,000 individual products, streamlining those products and their descriptions into a more concise, usable and manageable Product Type List has been a challenge.
The RSPO Product Type List is expected to function in a similar manner to the FSC Product Classification addendum to FSC Standards and is expected to be eventually published as a standalone RSPO Document acting as an addendum or supplementary document to RSPO Standards. Product Types are grouped by Product Class and the typical Business Type that trades those products. All three draft lists are available for public comment.
The RSPO Secretariat is seeking RSPO Members’ feedback, thoughts and comments on ver1.0. Some product types may have been inadvertently omitted, some examples of products may have been mistakenly categorised under a different product type, some product types may be associated with an incorrect business type. Your assistance is required to refine ver1.0 into an improved ver1.1 for use during the trial implementation.
The public comment period shall begin on 21 October 2025, running through 19 November 2025 (11.59pm, UTC+0).
Please click on the button below to access the Konveio platform where public comments will be received. A step-by-step guide to using the platform can be accessed here.
Please also note that all Product Type, Product Class and Business Type lists and descriptions, definitions and explanatory text within ver 1.0 are in draft. These will be refined and improved with your assistance.
