Jakarta, 20 June 2017 – The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) has announced the appointment of three sustainability ambassadors from its “Youth Leader in Sustainability” programme that was launched in January 2017. The ambassadors are: Andrian Pranama from Universitas Komputer Indonesia, Dwi Saputri from Universitas Gadjah Mada and Nizar Nur Wicaksono from Universitas Gadjah Mada. All three ambassadors will be presented an opportunity to undergo internship and involve in sustainability campaign in RSPO, WWF-Indonesia, The Body Shop® and SINAR MEADOW for six months. During this period, all ambassadors will be equipped with knowledge on sustainability principles and implementation and have the chance to materialize their sustainability campaign.

“Youth Leader in Sustainability” programme is an ambassador seeking program by RSPO in collaboration with WWF-Indonesia, The Body Shop® and SINAR MEADOW. Launched in January 2017, the programme includes a series of activities including university roadshows, seminars, and a selection phase where all participants must complete a series of sustainability related tasks through Sustainability Quest application as well as a sustainability campaign idea video submission.

Tiur Rumondang, Director of RSPO Indonesia said “RSPO believes that the most efficient way to educate the younger generation is through a deeper audience engagement where messages exchanged among members of the group. We want to find leaders that will create more leaders through the creation of talented ambassadors'. We believe that this Youth Leader in Sustainability will bring positive outcome in increasing younger generation awareness and involvement for a more sustainable future.”

The first phase of “Youth Leader in Sustainability” saw 810 participating students from 58 universities nationwide. Seven finalists from Jakarta, Bandung and Yogyakarta were selected to join the second phase of competition (final round) in Jakarta. The final round included a series of workshops, mentoring, idea presentation and interview sessions.

The Youth Leader in Sustainability ambassador was selected based on criteria of being passionate and committed to leading the change towards a more sustainable lifestyle and the ability to influence public towards sustainability initiative through measurable and feasible campaign program.

During the press conference, Arnold Sitompul, Director of Conservation WWF-Indonesia explained “The number of participants in this program reflected the enthusiasm of Indonesian younger generation to become a sustainability campaign ambassador. These appointed ambassadors will be directly involved in running WWF-Indonesia consumer related campaign during their internship. One of the campaigns is “Buy Good” (Beli Yang Baik) which encourages Indonesian consumers to wisely choose the goods they purchase and and pay attention on whether they are produced in a sustainable manner.”

We are keen to equip them with deeper understanding on sustainable business practice and its impact to the business. We hope that they will carry these valuable lessons as they grow to become responsible business practitioner in the future.”

We will show this Youth Leader in Sustainability ambassadors how to implement sustainability principles in production and how consumers can distinguish products that are produced in sustainable manner.”
