The Bakels Group consists of more than thirty companies owned by the private holding company EMU AG which is turn is owned by the EMU Foundation which was set up by the Bakels Family. Founded in the Netherlands in 1904 Bakels now operates on all five continents. It's business is the development, manufacture and sales of ingredients used primarily in the bakery sector. Bakels companies operate under the objectives of the EMU Foundation which include: To actively conduct research in the areas of ingredients, finished products and manufacturing techniques to ensure the Group's high profile as a reliable supplier is maintained.

    Organisation's Commitments Toward Sustainability

  • How will your organisation promote the RSPO internally and to other stakeholders?
    The sustainable products will be summarised to the sales teams with guidance as to how to develop baked products based on only sustainable palm.
  • Where relevant, what processes is the organisation establishing to engage with interested parties, for example to resolve conflict or to use sustainably produced palm oil?
    Bakels will advertise in trade literature and promote the use of sustainable palm oil with bakery ingredients.
  • Where relevant, how will your organisation work towards implementing the RSPO Principles and Criteria or assessing supplier performance against these criteria?
    Bakels will ensure sustainable certified palm is purchased from members of the RSPO with Certification and remains fully traceable.
  • Any other information that would support the application such as what your organisation hopes to gain from joining RSPO and how it would support RSPO?
    Bakels intends to support its customers requirements to move to using sustainable palm.
