The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) is pleased to announce the launch of its Benchmarking Study on Reporting Frameworks and Sustainability Rating Systems (RFSRS) in relation to the Sourcing of Sustainable Palm Oil.
In line with its commitment to continuous improvement and strengthening the value of RSPO Membership and Certification, RSPO has carried out comprehensive benchmarking study to better understand how Reporting Frameworks and Sustainability Rating Systems (RFSRS) relate to sustainable palm oil sourcing practices and align with and/or reference the RSPO Standards.
Sustainability assessment and disclosure initiatives are structured frameworks, platforms, and rating systems that enable organisations to measure, assess, disclose, and benchmark their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance. These systems support transparency, comparability, risk management, and continuous improvement in sustainability performance.
In agricultural commodity supply chains such as palm oil, RFSRS may recognise or differentiate sustainable sourcing practices based on criteria such as traceability, deforestation risk management, supplier engagement, and alignment with recognised sustainability standards and certification schemes, including those of RSPO.
This study explores the complementarity between selected RFSRS and RSPO Standards and tools:Principles and Criteria (P&C), Supply Chain Certification Standard (SCCS), and Annual Communication of Progress (ACOP), particularly in relation to sustainability disclosures, due diligence, monitoring, verification, and claims. It assesses how RSPO-assured data and indicators can support companies in meeting corporate sustainability reporting requirements and strengthening ESG performance disclosures.
RSPO is hosting a dedicated webinar to mark the launch of the study. The session will present the objective and scope of the research, key findings, and provide an overview of how members can use this research to inform their ESG reporting and disclosures.
The launch webinar will provide an overview of:
- The role of Voluntary Sustainability Standards (VSS) within reporting frameworks and sustainability rating platforms
- The evolving ESG reporting and disclosure landscape in relation to palm oil
- The objectives and scope of the benchmarking study
- Key findings and practical guidance on how RSPO Members can use the benchmarking tool
