The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) is a global, non-profit organisation with voluntary members working to transform the palm oil industry to make it sustainable. The Senior Manager, Global IMO Programme will be responsible for the implementation of RSPO’s Intermediary Outreach and Engagement initiatives within palm oil-producing countries. To achieve this, the RSPO partners with local NGOs and CSOs to provide training, information and resources to rural communities on sustainable agricultural production and clarify how the RSPO certification benefits these rural communities.
Together with the Director Technical, the Senior Manager Global IMO Programme will coordinate and interact with the RSPO leadership to ensure effective implementation and budget management of ongoing programmes in Africa, Latin America, and Asia. Additionally, the Senior Manager, Global IMO Programme will identify new opportunities to grow the programme and further develop it as a flagship programme for the organisation.
The location of this role is Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia or Jakarta, Indonesia.
KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include but will not be limited to the following:
- Identify individuals, organizations, and governmental bodies that hold influence and are well-respected within communities. Engage them for potential voluntary participation in the RSPO intermediary organizations network.
- Develop and expand the programme strategy, linking projects to existing RSPO initiatives where appropriate and charting a path forward to continue to evolve this as flagship programme for the organisation.
- Actively manage and take primary responsibility for all operational aspects of the programme including ownership of the tender process with external partner organisations, budget and contract management, independent reviews and independent financial audits.

- Ensure that local stakeholders, including communities, have effective communication channels with the RSPO. Provide them with access to information, resources, and capacity-building support through intermediary organizations.
- Facilitate and execute more comprehensive outreach initiatives by leveraging the intermediary organizations network.
- Strengthen relationships between the network of intermediaries and stakeholders such as Producers, Local Governments, Administrators, Community Groups, RSPO, and other related organizations.
- Enhance local communities’ understanding of the RSPO Principles & Criteria (P&C) and its impact on compliance for RSPO grower members.
- Encourage the participation of local NGOs in various RSPO Standards National Interpretation processes.
- Share insights on engaging community influencers and related activities with the Technical Division team and other RSPO divisional teams.
- Apart from the duties stated above, to perform any duty or duties reasonably assigned.
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
Education
- Bachelor´s degree in social sciences, international development, agronomy, agricultural economics or social economics is preferred. Masters degree strongly preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 8 years´ experience in international development programme management including experience working with grassroots organizations in rural communities within the palm oil supply chain.
- Minimum 8 years´ experience in working with international / multistakeholder organizations.
- Existing network within and knowledge of the sustainable agriculture sector, including key actors from various stakeholder groups (e.g. local and international NGOs and CSOs, multilateral institutions, implementing partners, etc.)
Technical and Professional Knowledge
- Experience in policy and stakeholder outreach
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholder projects and working groups
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and interact with different stakeholders
- Proficiency in Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Professional fluency in English with excellent communication skills. Spanish, Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Melayu, and/or French skills desired.
Other Special Requirements
- Knowledge about oil palm cultivation and palm oil production from a perspective of the main sustainability challenges associated with these activities.
