Job description
RSPO is looking for a Chief Operating Officer to support the Secretary General in directing, administering and coordinating the internal operational activities of the organization in accordance with policies, goals, and objectives established by the Secretary General and the Board of Directors.

The COO will hold oversight of the first line of defense, be an approved person, and manage all change initiatives across the establishment. The COO will also manage and lead the operational teams throughout the organisation.

It will be expected that the COO will be a strong negotiator and communicator, able to manage relationships, and gain buy-in from all stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities include:

Staff Resources
The COO will facilitate the team’s success by ensuring clear goals and accountability, as well as sound alignment of staff resources across the organization. This includes working with the Head of HR to define staff needs and facilitate hiring of additional team members.

Financial and Administrative Management
The COO will guide financial management and ensure strong fiscal responsibility and accountability. The incumbent will work closely with senior leaders on budget decisions, managing the annual budget, allocating resources and monitoring financial flows throughout the year. The role will also ensure legal and tax compliance and manage outside business services, including vendor relationships and contracts.

Organizational Development
The position will rely on wisdom and practical business skills, improve the managerial trenches of RSPO, to inform decisions about teamwork, accountability, managing change, and refining the current infrastructure.

Champion of Corporate Culture.
As an empathetic partner to the Directors and staff, the appointee will take the time to get to know the unique and complimentary strengths of each member of the team, listen to their needs, and build infrastructure that supports and leverages their assets.

As a new senior leader, the COO is in an advantageous position to conduct a fresh assessment of current systems and process improvement opportunities. With input from senior leaders and staff, the COO will identify problems and bottlenecks, and recommend business process change that aligns with strategic objectives.

Desired Skills and Experience
We are seeking a candidate that has proven experience in scaling a multi-site organization and a demonstrated ability to both lead and build the capabilities of a driven, bright, diverse team.

  • Leadership and Organization - exceptional capacity for managing and leading people; a team builder who has experience in scaling up organizations; ability to connect staff both on an individual level and in large groups
  • Is Action Oriented - enjoys working hard and looks for challenges; able to act and react as necessary, even if limited information is available.

Post or Under Graduate degree in Operations Management or Business Administration with more than 10 years’ experience in a senior leadership role
